raw_water_intake_june_2009Due to the extreme and prolonged drought in the north Georgia area, the City of Cumming has undertaken $15 million of improvements to its Raw Water Intake located off Lake Lanier. Civil Engineering Consultants provided the complete design services to construct a larger (105 MGD) and deeper intake (65-feet) to insure a reliable withdrawal of raw water at record low lake levels. The project consists of a 66-inch intake pipe below the lake bottom, a new pump house with room for 6 each 900 HP pumps and motors and the installation of 3,000 LF of 78-inch steel pipe laid 50-feet below normal pool elevation.

This project supports withdrawal of raw water for a community of approximately 150,000 people. The Intake is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion June of 2009. W.L. Hailey & Company, Inc. is the contractor.  The Intake is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion August of 2009.
